Aesthetic Surgery Pioneer Passes

This morning I awoke and saw several posts relating the passing of Brazilian plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy. Though I never had the honor of meeting Dr. Pitanguy personally, I have heard his name countless times in surgery indicating a specific location or anatomic feature attributed to Pitanguy. In reading the aesthetic literature, his name is repeatedly referenced in all areas of the body. Dr. Pitanguy is largely attributed to bringing aesthetic surgery to the main stream especially in Brazil and spreading their techniques and knowledge through residency training and international meetings. The world of plastic surgery has lost another of its giants and new innovators will non the less need to be found to carry the torch of progress. I will of course remember his contributions and hopefully the residents I've had the privilege of instructing will remember us using his line to avoid damaging the frontal branch or Pitanguy's point to correctly position a nipple with breast reduction and lifting.
