About BOTOX

To prevent wrinkles and lines from forming on the top portion of the face, Levesque Plastic Surgery in Austin, TX is proud to offer BOTOX to our patients. A common treatment among both men and women, this injectable procedure provides stunning, natural results that aid in graceful aging. BOTOX is a clean and purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the facial muscles caused by expressive movements. It can significantly improve upon dynamic lines, which form when muscles contract on the forehead and around the eyes. These lines can disappear when your muscles relax, but dynamic folds still often exist. To soften these dynamic folds, BOTOX is injected to smoothen the skin. BOTOX injections are most commonly placed between the eyebrows, on the Crow's feet, and across the forehead. Contact board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Andre Y. Levesque if you have any questions about how BOTOX can rejuvenate your appearance.

BOTOX Ideal Candidates

BOTOX is great for individuals who wish to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their face without undergoing invasive surgery. BOTOX can also be used as a preventive treatment, even if you are younger — keep in mind how often you make facial expressions. This is a terrific nonsurgical treatment if you are frustrated by forehead wrinkles or parallel lines between your brows. BOTOX can also improve upon the lines around your eyes (Crow's feet). If you have deeper lines, however, a filler product like Juvéderm may be a more suitable option. In addition, if you are older with sagging skin and widespread wrinkles, you may be a better candidate for a facelift procedure. This would provide you with a more dramatic result that is longer lasting. Levesque Plastic Surgery additionally offers eyelid surgeries, facelifts, and brow lifts as great alternatives for those seeking further facial rejuvenation.

BOTOX Procedure Technique

BOTOX treatments are done as an outpatient procedure at our home office, Levesque Plastic Surgery. If it is your first time to visit us in Austin, TX for BOTOX, we typically perform the injection during your consultation with Dr. Levesque. You will be asked to make several facial expressions that engage the upper face, such as squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to determine where the injections should be placed. The skin will be cleansed and BOTOX will be applied with a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help minimize discomfort and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but this is generally unnecessary. BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes. After your treatment, you can resume your normal daily routine as soon as you feel able.

BOTOX What to Expect

After the procedure, you may get back to your regular routine, but strenuous activity should be skipped for at least one day. You will be asked to sleep with your head elevated for the first night and to not touch your face, which could lead to accidentally spreading the injectable to undesired locations. The treated areas of the face may appear swollen, bruised, or red for 2 – 3 days, but you will not develop any lasting or serious side effects. In many cases, it typically takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. You should speak to your injector about the right time to schedule your next appointment at Levesque Plastic Surgery to refreshen your results.

BOTOX FAQs

How much does BOTOX cost?
The cost for BOTOX will depend on how much product is used. This will vary based on your needs and goals. During your consultation, Dr. Levesque will develop your personal treatment plan and estimate your costs accordingly. BOTOX can produce beautiful results when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Levesque. However, it can be unsafe if done by someone without the proper training, which is why it's better to avoid places offering cheap or knock-off injections. To save money, ask about the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program so you can get points for BOTOX and other Allergan products, like Juvéderm.

How long will my results last?
Your BOTOX results can last up to four months. Most patients make an appointment every 3 months or so to maintain their results, but you may come back sooner if desired. If you are getting BOTOX while you are younger as a preventive treatment, you may want to schedule treatments further apart. After listening to your goals and developing your treatment plan, Dr. Levesque will be able to suggest when to schedule your next appointment.

What's the difference between wrinkle relaxers and fillers?
Wrinkle relaxers (like BOTOX) and wrinkle fillers (like Juvéderm and Restylane) are both treatments that reduce wrinkles and smooth fine lines. BOTOX relaxes the overused facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines (between the eyebrows), Crow's feet (in the outer corner's of the eyes), forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Injectable fillers add volume under the skin to correct hollow areas and decrease static wrinkles. After hearing your goals, Dr. Levesque may recommend BOTOX, fillers, or a combination of both for a liquid "facelift."

What's the difference between BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin?
BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are brands of wrinkle relaxers that use botulinum toxin (type A). Each of these relax facial muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles, but each formula is designed to suit specific areas and needs. There are subtle differences between them including the dosing amounts, treatment spread, and the length of results. Dr. Levesque will choose the best injection to fit your goals.

Is BOTOX safe?
When used properly, BOTOX rarely causes any complications. With that said, it is important to select someone who has training in handling this medication, like Dr. Levesque. Overusing BOTOX can create an undesirable outcome. A skilled practitioner will use just enough of the medication to effectively freeze the muscles that cause wrinkles while leaving nearby muscles unaffected. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market today, BOTOX is safe and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to its cosmetic uses, BOTOX is also used to treat medical problems like facial spasms, excessive sweating, uncontrollable blinking, and migraines.
