About Sculptra

Loss of volume occurs naturally as we age, particularly in the middle of the face as the cheeks become flat and hollow. To remedy this, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Andre Y. Levesque offers Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid-based dermal filler that allows for longer-lasting and deeper volume replacement in the apples of the cheeks. In addition to restoring the fullness of the cheeks, Sculptra can decrease the appearance of shallow to deep lines and wrinkles, including the nasolabial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines) that start at the outside of the nose to the corners of the mouth. With its unique formula, Sculptra increases the natural production of collagen in your body. This means that even if you stop treatments, your skin will still be healthier compared to before you began receiving Sculptra injections. Schedule an appointment at Levesque Plastic Surgery in Austin, TX to hear about the benefits of this impressive dermal filler.

Sculptra Ideal Candidates

Sculptra is ideal for patients who want to boost fullness in their cheeks without surgical implants. Some candidates may have naturally thin cheeks, while others experience volume loss with age. Sculptra dermal filler can also be used to treat shallow to deep facial lines and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds, chin wrinkles, and marionette lines. Because Sculptra helps to boost the body's natural production of collagen, many patients will see a visible improvement in the appearance and overall health of their skin.

Sculptra Procedure Technique

After your consultation to determine your custom treatment plan, you will receive your Sculptra injections in one of our minor procedure rooms. The injector may apply a numbing cream or local anesthetic before cleaning and marking the areas to be injected. Once you are ready, the filler will be injected into the deeper layers of the skin at the selected sites. For best results, Dr. Levesque suggests a series of four Sculptra injections. Each session will be performed at Levesque Plastic Surgery about three weeks apart.

Sculptra What to Expect

After your treatment, you may have mild to moderate redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the sites of injections that should heal naturally in 3 – 5 days. To speed healing, you can apply cold packs to the treated areas. You should avoid UV exposure as much as possible after your injection and use sun protection. Most patients will have improvements right after their Sculptra treatment with complete results developing after 3 – 5 months. The effects of your treatment will be fully realized once the natural production of collagen encouraged by Sculptra strengthens the skin. When performed as a series of injections over the course of 3 – 4 months, your results can last up to two years.

Sculptra FAQ's

How much does Sculptra cost?
Treatments with Sculptra can range in price depending on how much you require to achieve your goals. Some patients may need multiple injections for their optimal outcome. During your initial consultation, Dr. Levesque will listen to your goals and customize a treatment plan for your specific budget.

How does Sculptra work?
Using poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. It can help to restore the skin’s elasticity and volume over time as more collagen is formed. This added collagen can effectively plump moderate to severe lines and wrinkles.

Are Sculptra injections safe?
Sculptra is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and has been used safely around the world since 1999. Side effects are rare and usually mild but can include slight pain, bruising, redness, and swelling. In some cases, small bumps may appear when pressure is applied to the injection site. Please contact our office if you have any questions or experience any concerns.

What's the best age to start Sculptra treatments?
A treatment with Sculptra can help if you want to reduce the appearance of static lines and wrinkles. It is ideal to improve chin wrinkles, lines surrounding the mouth, and the nasolabial folds. Commonly, men and women tend to receive Sculptra treatments starting around their late 30s to early 50s. However, Sculptra can be used on most patients as long as they are over the age of 18 years old.

How long will my results last?
For longer-lasting results, some patients may require several Sculptra treatment sessions. A major advantage Sculptra has over other fillers it that the results usually last up to two years. Since Sculptra continues to increase the natural production of collagen in your skin, results take longer to appear but are more lasting.
