The Future of Hair Removal: MDElite Trilogy Pro at Levesque Plastic Surgery

Laser hair removal has become one of the most sought-after aesthetic treatments for achieving smooth, hair-free skin. At Levesque Plastic Surgery, we utilize the Trilogy Pro system by MD Elite, a state-of-the-art laser designed to provide safe, effective, and long-lasting hair reduction. Understanding how laser hair removal works, the importance of multiple treatments, and why it is considered hair reduction rather than permanent removal can help you achieve the best possible results.

Understanding the Trilogy Pro Laser Technology

The Trilogy Pro system by MD Elite is a cutting-edge laser hair removal device that combines three different wavelengths to target hair follicles at various depths within the skin. This innovative approach ensures more efficient and comprehensive treatment for all skin types and hair colors.

  • Alexandrite (755 nm): Ideal for lighter skin tones, this wavelength efficiently targets fine and medium hair.
  • Diode (810 nm): Known for its versatility, this wavelength balances effectiveness and safety across a broad range of skin tones.
  • Nd:YAG(1064 nm): Best for darker skin tones, this wavelength penetrates deeply while minimizing the risk of hyperpigmentation.

By incorporating multiple wavelengths, the Trilogy Pro system offers superior precision, safety, and efficacy compared to traditional single-wavelength lasers.

The Phases of Hair Growth and Why Multiple Sessions Are Necessary

Hair growth occurs in three distinct phases:

  • Anagen (Active Growth Phase): The ideal phase for laser treatment, as the hair is attached to the follicle, allowing the laser to effectively disable future growth.
  • Catagen (Transitional Phase): Hair detaches from the follicle, making it less responsive to laser energy.
  • Telogen (Resting Phase): The follicle remains dormant before shedding and re-entering the anagen phase. Laser applied at this phase will not result in enough energy being transmitted to the hair follicle to eliminate the hair.

Since not all hairs are in the anagen phase at the same time, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to target all hair follicles effectively. Most patients require 4 to 6 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results.

Why It’s Hair Reduction, Not Permanent Removal

While laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth, it does not permanently eliminate all hair. Over time, some hair follicles may regenerate due to hormonal changes or natural biological processes. However, the treated hair becomes finer, lighter, and less noticeable, making maintenance treatments an excellent option for long-term smoothness.  Another consideration is if you're hair has greyed laser will not be effective and you would only rely on other techniques such as electrolysis.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

Patients undergoing laser hair removal with the Trilogy Pro system can expect:

Minimal discomfort: Advanced cooling technology enhances comfort.  The sapphire tip on the Trilogy Pro system gets very cold which is what you feel instead of heat.  It also helps cool the surrounding skin so the heat is just focuses in the hair follicle.

Quick sessions: Depending on the treatment area, sessions can take as little as 15 minutes.

Temporary redness: Some mild redness or swelling may occur but typically subsides within a few hours.

Gradual hair reduction: Visible results appear after a few sessions, with continued improvement over time

Ideal Candidates for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal works best for individuals with dark hair and light to medium skin tones, as the laser targets pigment in the hair follicle. However, the Trilogy Pro’s advanced technology allows treatment on a wider range of skin types, including darker skin tones.  There is also an age component meaning that if your hair has lost it's pigment, grey or white hair than the laser will not have the melanin to target and not be effective.   Also we don't offer hair removal to minors as there are still hormonal changes effecting hair growth that would make the treatment less predictable.
