Chemical Peels · Austin, TX

Resurface for clearer, brighter skin

A chemical peel applies a medical-grade solution that removes the outer, damaged layers of skin in a controlled way — prompting fresher, smoother, more even skin to grow in its place. It’s one of the most effective ways to improve pigment, texture, fine lines, and acne without a device or downtime you can’t plan around.

The key is choosing the right depth and formula for your skin. As a physician-led practice, we match the peel to your skin type and goals — and condition your skin beforehand when needed — so you get real results safely, including on richer skin tones where peel selection matters most.

By depth

Light, medium & deep peels

Peels are grouped by how deeply they work. Deeper peels do more — and ask for more recovery. We’ll recommend the lightest peel that will meet your goals.

Refresh

Light (superficial)

Gentle acids exfoliate the very surface for an immediate glow, smoother texture, and brighter tone with little to no downtime. Great as a maintenance treatment.

Ingredients: glycolic, salicylic, lactic acid.
Correct

Medium depth

Reaches further to treat uneven pigment, sun damage, fine lines, and acne scarring. Expect several days of peeling as your skin renews.

Examples: TCA and Jessner blends, the VI Peel.
Transform

Deep

The most dramatic resurfacing for significant sun damage and deeper lines. Powerful results, but real downtime — used selectively and with careful skin-type screening.

Used selectively for the right candidate.
Concerns

What peels treat

Uneven pigment & sun spots

Fade brown spots, blotchiness, and sun-induced discoloration for a more even tone.

Dullness & rough texture

Slough away tired surface cells to reveal smoother, more radiant skin.

Fine lines

Soften early lines and improve overall skin quality, especially with medium-depth peels.

Acne & acne scarring

Clear pores, calm breakouts, and improve the look of shallow acne scars over a series.

Enlarged pores

Refine the appearance of pores as texture and oil balance improve.

Melasma (with care)

Carefully chosen peels, paired with the right skincare, can help manage stubborn melasma.

Why here

A physician-led practice

Peels are safe and effective — in the right hands. Choosing the wrong depth or formula for your skin type can cause prolonged redness or pigment changes, especially in richer skin tones. At Levesque Plastic Surgery you’re cared for at a medical, physician-led practice under the oversight of a board-certified plastic surgeon, with skin conditioned and peels selected for your skin — not a one-size-fits-all menu.

Pricing

Cost

Peel pricing depends on the type and whether it’s part of a series. We give you a clear quote at your visit. See the full non-surgical price menu, and ask about pairing a peel with microneedling for greater improvement in texture and scarring.

What to expect

Recovery depends on the depth

How much peeling and downtime you'll have depends on the strength of the peel. A light (superficial) peel refreshes tone and texture with little more than a day or two of mild flaking — a true "lunchtime" treatment. A medium-depth peel like the VI Peel drives more visible flaking, mostly on days three to five, and a more dramatic reveal underneath. Deeper peels do more but ask for more recovery, and Dr. Levesque will only recommend the depth that matches your goal and your schedule.

The result you get depends heavily on aftercare: follow the kit, resist the urge to pick or pull at flaking skin, keep the skin moisturized, and be diligent with sun protection while it renews. For tone and texture goals, a series of lighter peels often gives a smoother, more controlled result than a single aggressive one.

Choosing the right peel for your skin

Peel selection matters most for medium and darker skin tones, which can be more prone to post-inflammatory pigment changes if a peel is too aggressive. That's exactly why having peels performed under a physician's oversight matters — the formulation and strength are chosen for your skin. Peels aren't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active cold sore or skin infection, or soon after isotretinoin (Accutane).

How It Works

Matched to depth

A chemical peel applies a solution that removes damaged outer skin in a controlled way, so smoother, more even skin can surface. Peels are chosen by depth: superficial peels gently refresh tone and texture with little to no downtime; medium-depth peels reach further to address sun damage, pigment, and fine lines with several days of peeling; and deeper peels correct more advanced changes with longer recovery. Matching the right peel to your skin and goals is what keeps results effective and safe.

What to Expect

Peeling & aftercare

Application takes only minutes, with a tingling or warm sensation. Depending on depth, you’ll experience anywhere from a light refresh to several days of visible flaking as the skin renews. Diligent sun protection and moisturizing are essential during recovery, and it’s important not to pick or pull peeling skin.

Lighter peels are often done as a series for cumulative improvement, while a single medium-depth peel can make a meaningful difference. We’ll recommend a cadence based on your skin.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A chemical peel applies a medical-grade solution that exfoliates the outer layers of skin in a controlled way, prompting fresher, smoother, more even skin to grow in. Peels are classified by how deeply they work — light, medium, or deep — and the right depth depends on your skin and what you're treating.
Peels improve uneven pigment and sun spots, dullness and rough texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, and acne and acne scarring. Lighter peels refresh and brighten with little downtime; deeper peels address more significant sun damage and lines with a longer recovery.
Light (superficial) peels use gentle acids like glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid for a quick refresh. Medium-depth peels (such as TCA or Jessner blends, and the VI Peel) reach further to treat pigment, texture, and fine lines. Deep peels create the most dramatic change but involve real downtime and are used selectively.
It depends on depth. A light peel may cause a day or two of mild flaking; a medium peel typically involves several days of peeling and redness; deep peels require more significant recovery. We'll tell you exactly what to expect and how to care for your skin afterward.
Yes, with the right peel and provider. Deeper peels carry more risk of pigment changes in richer skin tones, so peel choice and pre-treatment skin conditioning matter. Being a physician-led practice, we tailor the peel and protocol to your skin type for safe, even results.
