Lasers & Energy · Austin, TX

Light and energy for real skin change

Laser, light, and energy devices are some of the most powerful non-surgical tools we have — able to erase brown spots, calm redness, resurface sun damage and wrinkles, and remove unwanted hair. Each device targets a specific problem, and the art is in matching the right technology and settings to your skin.

That matching is where a physician-led practice matters most: some wavelengths and settings carry real risk of burns or pigment changes if used on the wrong skin type. We choose the device, plan the series, and set expectations for downtime honestly — so you get the result you came for, safely.

The categories

Types of laser & light treatment

Resurfacing

Ablative laser (CO2)

Fractional CO2 removes microscopic columns of skin to drive dramatic improvement in wrinkles, texture, and sun damage — the strongest resurfacing, with real downtime.

Best for: deeper lines, texture, sun damage.
Photofacial

IPL / broadband light

Intense pulsed light (Lumecca) targets brown spots, sun damage, and facial redness across the whole face, with little to no downtime over a short series.

Best for: pigment, sun spots, redness.
Hair-free

Laser hair removal

Laser energy targets the pigment in the hair follicle to reduce unwanted hair over a series of sessions, with device and settings chosen for your skin and hair.

Best for: unwanted facial and body hair.

Why here

A physician-led practice

Energy-based devices are wonderful in the right hands and risky in the wrong ones — the difference between a great result and a burn or pigment change often comes down to choosing the correct device and settings for your skin type. At Levesque Plastic Surgery, your treatment is planned and overseen at a medical, physician-led practice by a board-certified plastic surgeon’s team, with honest guidance on what each device can (and can’t) do for you.

Pricing

Cost

Pricing depends on the device, the area, and whether it’s a single treatment or a series. We’ll give you a clear quote and plan at your visit. See the full non-surgical price menu, or ask how a laser or IPL treatment can pair with a chemical peel or microneedling.

What to expect

The right laser for the right skin

"Laser" isn't one thing — it's a family of devices, and matching the right one to your skin and your goal is what separates a great result from a disappointing (or risky) one. Gentler, non-ablative lasers and IPL improve tone, redness, and sun spots with little downtime — often just a few days of pinkness or coffee-ground darkening of spots that flake away. Ablative resurfacing like a CO2 laser does far more for deep lines and texture, but asks for a week or more of focused recovery. At your consultation we'll be clear about the trade-off between results and downtime for each option.

Skin tone changes the plan

This matters most for medium and darker skin tones. Some light-based devices target pigment and can cause burns or unwanted pigment changes on richer complexions, so device choice and settings — or choosing a non-light option like microneedling instead — is a safety decision, not just a preference. Because our laser and energy treatments are performed under Dr. Levesque's medical oversight, the device and settings are selected for your skin type.

Whatever the device, two things protect your result: strict sun avoidance before and after, and honest expectations. Laser treatments generally aren't done on recently tanned skin, during pregnancy, with an active infection or cold sore in the area, or soon after isotretinoin (Accutane).

The Approach

The right energy for the concern

“Laser skin treatment” isn’t a single procedure — it’s a category of light- and energy-based tools, each suited to a different problem. Intense pulsed light (IPL) clears brown spots and redness; fractional resurfacing rebuilds texture and softens scars and lines; targeted wavelengths address vessels or pigment. The skill is in the diagnosis: choosing the device, settings, and number of sessions that will actually move your specific concern, and knowing when to combine modalities or pair them with skincare for the best result.

What to Expect

Downtime varies with intensity

Gentler treatments have little to no downtime — some pinkness that fades the same day — while deeper resurfacing involves several days of redness and flaking as the skin renews. We’ll tell you exactly what to plan for based on the treatment chosen.

Sun protection before and after is essential for safety and results, and many concerns respond best to a short series. Your consultation maps out the plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Ablative lasers (like fractional CO2) remove the outer layers of skin to drive dramatic resurfacing of wrinkles, texture, and sun damage — with more downtime. Non-ablative and light-based devices work more gently beneath or across the surface with little to no downtime, usually over a series. The right choice depends on your concern, your skin type, and how much recovery time you have.
IPL (intense pulsed light, such as Lumecca) uses broadband light rather than a single laser wavelength. It's excellent for brown spots, sun damage, and redness across the whole face — a "photofacial." Lasers use a focused wavelength for more targeted resurfacing or hair removal. We choose based on what we're treating.
Brown spots and uneven pigment, facial redness and broken capillaries, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, rough texture and scarring, and unwanted hair. Different devices target different concerns, and treatments are often combined for the best overall result.
Some are, some aren't — which is exactly why device selection and settings matter. Certain wavelengths and IPL carry more risk of pigment changes in richer skin tones, while others are well suited to them. Being a physician-led practice, we match the device and settings to your skin type for safe results.
It depends on the device and goal. IPL photofacials and laser hair removal are typically a series with little downtime; ablative resurfacing may be a single stronger treatment with real recovery. We'll outline the plan and downtime clearly before we begin.
